Quick Update: Joining infophreak.com

So I’m now officially part of the infophreak.com contributor team (well that happened like a couple weeks ago). I was also able to write my first write-up for the HackTheBoo 2024 CTF event that happened last October. That said, I’ll still be posting some of my more personal projects here. I will, however, be posting just more content in general on infophreak.

Ever since I’ve joined the infophreak community, I’ve been able to meet a lot of good people who are in the IT / Cybersec space. I’ve learned a lot from interacting with them. We have our weekly infophreak nights where we do LetsDefend and other learning platforms together. We also do group CTF events together like this year’s Huntress and Dragos CTFs. It certainly has been interesting. I also get to help with infrastructure and stuff.

Aside from my first write-up, I was also able to make my first own CTF challenge (“The Hidden“) – which is Halloween-themed – as well. It’s posted up on the infophreak website. I might make a write-up for that in the future, but basically it has a lot of basic Windows file manipulation. It only took me a day, from planning to conception to testing (and then cycling over and over again). I did a lot of testing to make sure everything worked as intended – it certainly did make me tilt at times. I bet people on HTB and TryHackMe do that ten times more for their boxes and rooms. The others doing the challenge had interesting ways of attempting to solve it. I thought the challenge would be super easy, but seeing others do it gave me a bit of confidence in what I’ve learned (since they were suffering).

Another thing, aside from other things I might make posts about soon, is I got an All-Access membership to The Cyber Mentor during this Black Friday’s sale week period. I’m excited to starting learning stuff from there, especially their OSINT course. I’ve mostly just been learning from HTB Academy, so the videos provided by TCM will be a nice change of pace. Anyways, that’s it for a quick update, I just wanted to put something on the blog.
